Ingleside / Merced Heights
Situated in the southwestern part of the City, close to the Pacific Ocean, Ingleside and Ocean View enjoy more sun than the rest of San Francisco and feature views of Mt. Davidson and San Bruno Mountain. Steep hills converge in this area, where small lots for single-family homes constructed between 1900 and 1940 boast views of Oakland, Alameda and the Golden Gate Bridge. As one of the most recent areas to be developed in San Francisco, Lake Merced preserved its rural atmosphere and agricultural flavor well into the 20th century. The lake, lush golf courses, and natural-habitat zoo make this one of the most scenic living choices within San Francisco. Because so much of the neighborhood reflects newer construction, the environment is well-ordered and appealing to families. The close proximity of the Pacific Ocean provides cooling breezes, water sports, and recreational possibilities close to home. Incorporated in this district is the beautiful, sprawling campus of San Francisco State University. There are many shops and restaurants along Ocean Avenue, while commuters to the Downtown district and beyond enjoy easy access via Interstate 280, BART and MUNI.
