Van Ness / Civic Center

Civic Center is one of San Francisco’s low-maintenance urban lifestyle regions with an eclectic mix of Victorian flats and high-rise apartments. New housing complexes like the Marquee Lofts and Pacific Place are on Van Ness alongside more seasoned condos from the 1970’s and 1980’s like Daniel Burnham Court and Opera Plaza. The cultural center of the city, residents of the Civic Center neighborhood are within walking distance to the War Memorial Opera House, Herbst Theatre, Davis Symphony Hall, Orpheum Theatre, Brooks Hall the Civic Auditorium and the Asian Museum. The federal, state, and city government offices are located here as well. Independent cinemas, along with 14-screen multiplexes, bookstores, coffee shops and cafes throng the main corridor of Van Ness Avenue. Nearby neighborhoods include Hayes Valley, Russian Hill and Chinatown.
