The Sunset, San Francisco’s largest neighborhood, is roughly 450 blocks laid out in a grid of numbered streets and alphabetized avenues. It is a quiet, residential neighborhood with small stretches of commercial activity along Noriega and Taraval Streets. Bordered by Ocean Beach, this neighborhood provides residents with abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. The Outer Sunset’s famously foggy summers attract those who long to escape the heat.

Most the Outer Sunset is quite flat, except for Golden Gate Heights where spectacular view homes sit on streets that twist and wind around Grandview Park and the Golden Gate Heights Playground. The homes in the Outer Sunset are generally post-WWII construction and also feature a range of multi-unit and single-family homes. Many homes have hardwood floors, fireplaces, garages and level backyards. MUNI’s N-Judah and L-Taraval lines conveniently shuttle residents to and from Downtown.

The San Francisco Zoo is located in this district and The Zoo’s education center holds frequent classes on animals and conservation. The Outer Sunset’s newly renovated Parkside Branch of the S.F. Public Library offers regular educational events and exhibits as well.
